Dr. Matheena Mathir

Doctor with a passion for evidence-based medicine.

I graduated from the University of Cape Town in 2013 and completed my internship at Groote Schuur Hospital. During this time, I gained valuable experience in clinical and critical approaches to medical problems.

After completing my community service at Murchison Hospital and GJ Crookes Hospital, where I predominantly practiced internal medicine, I joined the family practice of a family medicine specialist. Here, I learned the tools of the trade from four distinguished and respected clinicians.

In 2017, I became a Sub Investigator for HIV vaccine trials with CAPRISA before having my first child. It was during this time that I fell in love with HIV medicine and decided to pursue it further.

In 2018, I joined MatCH as an HIV clinician, where I managed patients with high viral loads and advanced clinical care in Umlazi, KwaMakutha, Magabeni, and Umnini. During this period, I completed my postgraduate diploma in HIV medicine, passed the exams for Advanced HIV Management by the South African HIV society, and gave birth to my second child.

When the Durban division of MatCH closed in September 2020, I saw this as the perfect opportunity to take HIV medicine into private practice and perhaps even become a family doctor. So, in the middle of a global pandemic, I started my own beautiful practice.

Today, I am grateful for my awesome patients and the love I have for my job that will never fade.

My experience includes: University of Cape Town, Groote Schuur Hospital, Murchison Hospital, GJ Crookes Hospital, CAPRISA, MatCH, and Advanced HIV Management.

Getting high-quality healthcare has never been easier
